Video Adventures

I decided to enjoy my day off on Monday by doing a little cross country skiing. I also took my little flip video camera along to try and document the outing. As you will see it didn't go so well, but I figured would post anyways.

I try to finagle a "Helmet Cam", but apparently it was a very poor setup. For the record, I didn't fall, the camera did.

My next effort was my "Pectoral Cam". I put the camera in my front chest pocket. It doesn't really work that well either, and gets a little choppy, so if you get motion sickness in less than a minute, don't watch. It is actually a pretty crappy video because you cant see anything, but I did try and give a little play by play.

Since live action shots weren't going so swell, I decided I would turn my ski trip into a Man Vs. Wild episode.

Hopefully in the near future I will have a better setup for "helmet cam", and will be able to provide some better clips.

The Chinese Restaurant

Last night Jenna and I decided to get some Chinese food for dinner from Great Wall. We have ordered from them before and the food was good, and the service quite prompt. I called in our take-out order, and was told it would be 15 minutes. We got there about 20 minutes later and it wasn't ready yet, and were told it would be a few more minutes.

We waited somewhat patiently, along with a few other people who came in to pick-up their take out as well. The lady working the counter asked several times for our names and what we ordered and went into the back to "check" on our order. We were of course told it would take only a few more minutes.

Before we knew it we had been there for about 45 minutes and still no food. They apologized profusely and told us it would only be a few more minutes, and that their computer had malfunctioned so they lost about 5 different meal tickets, so the cooks never saw our order.

In the mean time, they offered us something to drink. My blood sugar was dangerously low (I don't really know this for a fact, I just guessed that it was by that point), so I said I would take a Pepsi. It was about this time that I remembered I had some Saltine crackers in my coat pocket. I only wish I had thought of those sooner. So we stood waiting in Great Wall, drinking our free Pepsi and eating Saltines. Well, actually it was just me, because I ended up drinking Jenna's Pepsi too. I offered some crackers to another lady that was waiting, but she declined even though she said they smelled good.

Jenna brought up the fact that our experience was similar to an episode of Seinfeld, The Chinese Restaurant ( Season 2, episode 11). I am glad she brought that up because it made the experience more hilarious.

Well, we finally did get our food after a "few more minutes." It was actually about an hour later, but who's counting. The food was delicious and we will definitely go back.

Here's a short clip from the Seinfeld episode.

Follow You

A couple of weekends ago Jenna and I were down in Indianapolis visiting her family and my soon to be in-laws :) We were also down there for our pre-marital counseling, which we "passed"!

Anyways, we attended her parents church on Sunday morning, and one of the worship leaders at Connection Pointe Christian Church sang a song, Follow You by Leeland ft. Brandon Heath. It has since become on of my favorites.

Here's the song and video to go with from YouTube.

Initially there wasn't anything in particular that drew me to it. I just liked how it sounded. The more I listened to it, the more the lyrics kind of got me thinking.

What exactly am I doing to follow Christ into the homes of the broken, or meet the needs of the poor and needy? I know I am good at coming up with excuses though for not doing those types of things. My favorite seems to be, "I don't have time right now," but I must be pretty naive if I think I will one day all the sudden have an influx of extra time.

I do a pretty good job at making time to fit in my favorite TV shows, or opening my schedule at work to fit in some overtime for more money, or seeing what everyone is up to on Facebook. And to be clear I am not saying that there is anything wrong with those things, they are just things that I do happen to make time for.

I don't think the homes of the broken, or the poor and needy have to be a plane ride away in another country. Sometimes I get the thought in my head that in order to serve the less fortunate or unchurched/non- followers of Christ, I need to do so on some grand-scale mission trip. I tend to forget about how much opportunity I have around me on a daily basis right here in Kalamazoo.

'Cause Faith without works is dead
And on the cross your blood was shed
So how could I not give it away so freely?
