Ode to the Avocado

I realized today how much I love avocados. They taste delicious and are good for you.
My favorite way to enjoy avocado is in the form of guacamole. I could probably make an entire meal out of a bowl of guacamole and a bag of tortilla chips. (OK, so a bag of chips may not be that healthy for you...)

Let me give you a few facts regarding avocados.
  • The average avocado contains 300 calories and 30 grams of healthy polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat.
  • Avocados have the highest protein content of any fruit.
  • Avocados contain 60% more potassium than bananas.
  • One avocado contains 81 mcg of lutein , an important nutrient for healthy eyes.
  • High avocado intake has been shown to decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides and increase HDL (good) cholesterol
  • About 75% of an avocado's calories come from fat, most of which is monounsaturated fat.
  • They are rich in B vitamins, as well as vitamin E and vitamin K.
  • They have the highest fiber content of any fruit - including 75% insoluble and 25% soluble fiber.
After hearing all those health benefits, how can you not want an avocado right now?
